My Fashion Must-Haves for Fall 2012

6 Sep

Fall is my FAVORITE time of year and I am so excited for the air to get a little brisker, the trees to change color and for that Pumpkin Spice coffee to come back into my life. (Why doesn’t Starbucks carry it all year long?! :() After hours of pinning outfits on my Pinterest style board and scowering my favorite clothing websites for the latest fall trends, I have put together a list of my Fashion Must-Haves for Fall 2012.

print pants fall 20121. Color and Print Pants!

I absolutely LOVE this trend. Before fun colored and printed pants entered the fashion scene, I literally lived in black leggings and my favorite pair of Paige jeans. This trend will expand your wardrobe and have you mismatching patterns you never dreamed of pairing together.

leopard outfit fall 2012

2. Leopard Leopard Leopard

One of my favorite prints of all time and a classic look that can go from funky to timeless. Stock up on leopard to everything from flats, belts, shirts and even leggings. I am dying to add a pair of leopard pants or leggings to my wardrobe!

studs fall 2012

3. Rocker Chic

A new emerging trend is adding a little rocker flair to girly favorites! Spikes are popping up all over the place, on flats, blazer shoulders, shirt collars, belts and even jewelry! Theses studs are adding a little rough attitude to feminine staples. A little reminder girls can kick ass too 😉

old hollywood fall 2012

4. Old Hollywood Flair

The famous fur and classic trend of Old Hollywood is starting to make its way back into the fashion scene. These fashion icons of the Old Hollywood era are making their way into everyday fashion by way of fur collars, tight conservative cut dresses and the ever-classic fedoras, shown above in to-die-for colors!

polka dot fall 2012

5. Polka Dots

Some people love ’em, some people hate ’em, but like it or not this trend is back in the fashion scene for Fall. Whether you embrace this style or not, be prepared to see the famous polka dots on jeans, sweaters, scarves and much more! Although I never really caught on to the polka dot trend, the short sleeved sweater pictured above from Old Navy may be making its way into my closet very soon. 🙂

Fashion has been so inspiring lately with all the bring colors and fun, mix matched patterns that I am really excited to see what the rest of the year will hold.

My DIY Fall Wreath

31 Aug pinterst fall wreath

Fall is my FAVORITE season, and even though it isn’t September yet (don’t judge too much Sept. starts tomorrow) I just had to have a fall wreath to hang on our door. Ever since I got this little idea in my head, I must confess, I have been pinning wreaths like CRAZY (seriously not exaggerating just look at my “Wreaths” Pinterest Board !) After finding a few faves, I ended up going to the Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby to search for supplies and just be inspired by things on the shelves. I ended up taking a few elements from a few of my Pinterest wreaths (see below) and made a wreath that, I must admit, am kind of obsessed with 🙂

Wreaths from left to right are from the following amazing blogs: Right Shanty 2 Chic, Middle: Unknown, Left: Story Crafting with Joy.

After getting my inspiration I came home with an oval wreath (I wanted something a little different) and 2 bags full of burlap fabric, felt, moss wrap, pre-made little burlap flags and vintage rosettes (found in scrapbooking), faux berries and a monogram “K” for my last name Kinley (I know you all were thinking Knee :))

Once I got all of my supplies, my sister-in-law, Amanda, and I set out to get started on our craft day. It was a big help having another opinion on layout because I got a little too inspired and came home with wayyy too much stuff (although I did use a bit of everything.) I started out by wrapping the moss wrap around the one half of the wreath where I wasn’t going to put any rosettes. Then I  started to make the burlap rosettes from a tutorial on the Shanty 2 Chic Blog and they were sooo easy! You just take a 2 inch piece of burlap, folded in half, hot glue the end to a piece of felt and wrap in a circular motion until you have the desired size. glue the end to the felt leaving about an inch tail, cut the felt out around where the rosette is and glue the tail to the back! Wahlah a gorgeous, rustic burlap rosette! See the steps below.

Once I got the rosettes done a few in each of the colors of burlap I got. I began to mess around with the layout until I found one I liked. I started mixing the rosettes, pre-made vintage scrapbooking flowers and berries around the “K” monogram. Then I grabbed the hot glue gun and went to work. I used Gorilla Glue for the K to make sure it would stay since it was metal and a little heavier. Trust me the way my husband comes in and out of that door it was bound to fall off one day! Once I had the layout perfect I started on the “Welcome” flags. I strung the pre-made flags on a loose string from the burlap fabric and wrote “Welcome” in a black Sharpie. Then I tied them onto little twigs on the wreath.

One last final touch was the burlap ribbon tied in a bow to hang the wreath. I LOVE it and think it goes perfect with our door color for Fall! What do you think?!

Have you crafted any Fall projects lately? I would love to hear about them and try out some new projects!

Get the Perfect Gel Manicure at Home

28 Aug

Ever since the Gel Manicure made its debut a few years ago I haven’t even glanced twice at regular polish for my nails! Gel polish is shinier, lasts so much longer than regular polish, strengthens my nails and even makes my nails grow to lengths I never even thought were possible (due to less breakage)! I used to hit the nail salon at least once every 2 to 3 weeks to get my beloved Gel Manicure! Although it is nice to be pampered and sip on a glass of Cab while the nail tech is doing her thing, sometimes getting your nails done can be a chore. I wanted to have a Gel Mani without always having to go to the salon.

Enter at home Red Carpet Nails Professional Gel Manicure System! I am literally obsessed with it because it has made it possible to do my own salon-style professional Gel Manicure at HOME. It is a little expensive starting up but I promise you it is worth the investment, especially when salon Gel Manicures are upwards of $30! To start you can get the Red Carpet Manicure Starter Kit or buy the items individually, the starter kit is definitely the better deal at $50. I also highly recommend the Professional LED Light instead of the Portable LED Light. I just purchased it yesterday  (I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner! :)) It takes literally a quarter of the time and you can fit your whole hand under the light instead of having to do your thumbs separately, which is required with the Portable Light.

Red carpet manicure purcashes

This at home system is a true Beauty Must Have! In the long run, this system has saved me probably over $600 so far ($600 savings = 10 months of using it for 2 Manicures a Month). Red Carpet Manicure has literally saved my life and I know you will LOVE it once you try it! Many of my family members have already jumped on the Red Carpet Manicure bandwagon!

The Nitty Gritty:

  • Professional LED Gel Manicure at Home System
  • Takes about 30-45 minutes with the Portable LED light and 10 minutes with the Professional LED Light
  • Portable light you must use a timer, Professional light has an automatic sensor (My personal opinion, well worth the investment!)
  • Over 55 Shades of GORGEOUS colors that are only $10 for the whole bottle, that’s a lot of manicures!
  • Easy multiple step system
  • Lasts 2-3 weeks!!!! (my favorite, can you tell?!)
  • Is available for purchase at ULTA
  • A must have for all Beauty Lovers!

My latest at home Gel Mani is a Gray toned Polish called “My Inspiration” by Red Carpet Manicure. Ring finger is topped with Nicole by O.P.I’s Kardashian Kolor Collection Rainbow in the S-Kylie.

Go Nude! The Best Nude Lipstick

26 Aug

I am a HUGE fan of nude lips. I have plumper lips so I tend to want to make them blend in a little, I know I know people pay crazy amounts of money to have their lips injected and gloss them to make them look fuller, but I just always wanted to tone mine down a bit…don’t judge. 🙂 That being said, I have always worn nude or lighter colored lip colors (I must admit I have explored with red during the holiday season and actually kind of liked it!)

Until about a year ago I was still perusing the shelves for that perfect peachy, nude shade for my lips. I was actually hooked on MAC “Sandy B,” a gorgeous peachy, nude with a gold shimmer. I swore by this lipstick for a long time, until I started to pay my own bills and notice some slight problems. It came off pretty easily, I went through it pretty quickly and the price was a little steep, so I started looking look for another alternative. Don’t get me wrong I am a self-acclaimed MAC Addict, but there are just some things I think you can get that are just as good in quality for half the price.

So after trying out a ton of different brands, I FINALLY found the PERFECT nude, and with good timing, actually right before my wedding day 🙂 Until then I have literally lived on the stuff and have gone through about 10 tubes, not to mention got a lot of other people hooked on it too and not to mention a lot of compliments. My go-to nude lipstick is actually by Revlon and titled  “Just Enough Buff” (#613) and that couldn’t be more accurate. And ladies, its only $6.99! It is a smooth, silky texture with a gorgeous peachy, pinky hue that adds a hint of color while still having that nude (but not sickly, you know what I am talking about) tone to my lips! My only small complaint is that it is hard to find. I usually can find it at ULTA if I search hard enough. Target, and other drugstores typically don’t have it…I am kind of hesitating about writing this blog because it is going to be even harder to find now that I am letting my little secret out. Oh well, its totally worth it!

It’s time to GO NUDE! (in lip colors of course! ;)) Try my fave and let me know what you think! Or if you have your own favorite I would LOVE to hear about it!

Vanilla Frozen Yogurt: A Culinary Canvas

24 Aug
vanilla frozen yogurt

Edy’s makes our favorite Vanilla!

I don’t know about you, but in our house dessert is a must have after every meal, even if its just one M & M, we just have to have a little something sweet to seal the deal meal. One of our favorite desserts is a healthier version of ice cream, frozen yogurt! Some of you might cringe at the word dessert, but frozen yogurt is a healthy option to satisfy your sweet tooth. Frozen yogurt offers benefits and can be part of a well-balanced diet. Most frozen yogurts are fat free, are full of active culture probiotics (some which help maintain a healthy digestive tract) and are packed with much-needed calcium! What’s not to LOVE?!

Lots of times after dinner my hubby and I would hop in the car and make the trip to a frozen yogurt bar like Yumilicious and Pinkberry (two of our favorites!); however, we just got tired of driving and started buying our own frozen yogurt at the grocery store. This is when we discovered that Vanilla Frozen Yogurt is what I like to call, “a culinary canvas!” It is delicious on its own but 10x more delicious with an endless amount of toppings and added flavors that we already have in the pantry! I have listed a few of our amazing combos below! So get creative with your food and go on have your dessert and eat it too 🙂

Our Vanilla Frozen Yogurt Faves!

1. Mint ChocHomemade mint chocolate chip frozen yogurtolate Chip Yogurt – mix in a little mint extract and add some chocolate chips 🙂 and walah you have a new flavor to savor! P.S. You can always add green food coloring if (like me) it freaks you out to eat white mint chocolate chip ice cream.

2. Frozen Cereal Bowl – add your favorite cereals, we love Captain Crunch, its like eating your morning breakfast as a frozen treat!

3. Get Nutty – add some mixed nuts, almonds or even a scoop of peanut butter for a healthy punch of flavor.frozen yogurt toppings

4. Milk and Cookies – crush up some of your favorite cookies and add a splash of milk for more of a milkshake consistency (this is my hubby’s fav).

5. Fun with Fruit – any fruit you have in the fridge or freezer goes great with vanilla frozen yogurt (we always have Frozen Dole Mixed Fruit from Sam’s Club on hand), throw in some granola for another healthy addition!

6. Hot Chocolate Mix…wait what?! – stir in some powdered hot chocolate mix to yogurt to give it a chocolatey flavor, what girl doesn’t LOVE chocolate!?

7. Power Hour – make a protein milkshake! mix protein powder with milk water (use water instead of milk to cut calories without cutting taste, you will be surprised how good it is) and blend with frozen yogurt.

Now that you know our favorite toppings, what do you use to take your Vanilla frozen yogurt from drab to fab?!

Diorshow Mascara and Maximizer vs. Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black

21 Aug

Mascara is one of my makeup must haves! Most days I don’t wear liner or shadow and just rely on trusty mascara to take me from drab to fab.

I am a HUGE fan of Diorshow Mascara! Ever since I discovered it as a senior in Highschool I vowed never to use another brand. When I heard that Dior was coming out with a Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum I knew I just had to have it because of how much I loved the mascara. Dior claims the Lash Serum “instantly primes, plumps and lengthens lashes with an ultra-light and quick-drying formula. The first ‘active serum’ mascara primer also contains a unique cell-conditioning complex made up of hydrolyzed soy proteins that promotes long-term lash growth, strength and vitality.” I went out and bought the Maximizer and started using under my beloved Diorshow Mascara. Immediately I noticed my lashes became noticeably longer (little fibers attached to my lashes) and more defined. After the coat of Maximizer I put on a coat of Mascara. My lashes were noticeably longer, fuller and more defined!

For about a year now I have been using these two Dior products every day and never thought about changing brands, however when real life comes knocking and you realize you have to pay bills over going to your closest M.A.C. store you start to see where you can cut. With Diorshow Masacara at $25 a pop and the Dior Lash Maximizer at $28 I knew I had to (gasp) look for other options. My sister-in-law, Kat, swears by her Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black, only $8.50, and has been using it for years. We were getting ready together one day and decided to do one eye with my Dior Maximizer and Mascara and the other with just Loreal’s Voluminous. I was totally taken back by the results…they looked exactly the same! I did noticed subtle differences in texture (Voluminous was a little stickier), however to the normal onlooker my eyelashes were full, long and noticeable. Although, I must add I use Neutrogena Makeup Remover and the Diorshow is easier to remove in fewer swipes, but I can get over that for saving about $45! For now I am going to finish up my tubes of Dior Maximizer and Mascara (they usually last me about 2-3 months) and then try out Loreal’s Voluminous for a while.

What is your go to mascara? I am always open for new contenders in my treasured makeup bag!
